The CSSBoost project recently contributed to the LIAISE COST Action WG3 Workshop, titled “Advancing Industrial Symbiosis: From Learning and Awareness to Cross-Sectoral Action”. Hosted at the University of Piraeus, the event gathered experts to explore collaborative pathways for sustainable industrial growth.
The Coordinator’s Perspective
During the specialized session, “Systemic Approaches to Circularity in the EU: The Coordinators Perspective,” CSSBoost Project Coordinator George Arampatzis presented a deep dive into the project’s strategic framework. His presentation, “The Circular Systemic Solution as a Roadmap for Regional Transformation – The CSSBoost Experience,” outlined how structured, multi-stakeholder initiatives can redefine local economies.
Core Focus: The workshop dialogue centered on leveraging Circular Systemic Solutions (CSS) to successfully transition from isolated circular economy projects into fully integrated regional ecosystems. These ecosystems bridge the gaps between local industries, public authorities, research organizations, and communities.
Key Pillars for Systemic Success
Drawing from real-world milestones within the CSSBoost experience, the presentation highlighted four fundamental pillars necessary for regional scaling:
- Systemic Governance: Cultivating deep stakeholder collaboration across public and private sectors.
- Digital Infrastructure: Utilizing specialized digital tools and virtual circular economy spaces to track and simulate material flows.
- Industrial Symbiosis: Fostering cross-sectoral synergies that turn one industry’s waste streams into another’s valuable resources.
- Strategic Alignment: Establishing clear regional transformation pathways that directly support overarching EU circular economy ambitions.
Collaborative European Synergy
The workshop offered a valuable platform to exchange best practices, challenges, and methodologies with fellow coordinators and leading researchers from across Europe. These collaborative networks remain essential for driving large-scale progress in circularity, industrial symbiosis, and long-term climate resilience.
We extend our sincere thanks to the organizers of the LIAISE COST Action WG3 and all the attendees for their inspiring contributions and excellent event management.
